How we pick products
We don't test products ourselves. Every product on this site comes from recent reviews by independent publications that do, and every detail we show is checked against those reviews.
How a product gets on the site
- Read recent reviews. An AI research assistant reads reviews of a kind of gift, like book lights or board games, published or updated in the past 12 months.
- Require real evidence. A product qualifies only if at least one review says its writers tested or used it, or at least two independent publications recommend it.
- Check for recalls. The assistant searches the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall records for the brand and product.
- Fact-check every detail. A second, separate AI assistant re-reads every review and confirms each detail. Anything it can't confirm is dropped, and wording that overstates a review is toned down.
- Hold back anything doubtful. If there's an open question, like a review naming a different model than the one it links to, the product stays off the site until a better source settles it.
- Let old evidence expire. When a product's reviews are more than a year old, it comes off the site until newer reviews are found.
What that means for you
These checks are automated. No person here checks each product, so the details are only as good as the reviews they come from. That's why every product lists the reviews it came from, with links, so you can read them yourself.
We don't show prices, because prices change constantly. Check the current price before you buy.
How the gift finder chooses
Your answers are matched against the products with simple rules, like your budget and anything you asked to avoid. When the AI helper is on, an AI (Claude, made by Anthropic) chooses among the products that fit and writes the reason for each pick. It can make mistakes. The page tells you whether the AI helper is on.
Store links
Products link to their pages on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Products are chosen only by the research and checks above; how much a link might earn plays no part.
Updates
We research new products about once a month, starting with the kinds of gifts people ask for most.
